An exceptional C19th large glazed terracotta garden urn / wine cistern; of unusually large scale by Lipscombe & Co. The oval shaped bowl having a bold everted foliate moulded edge above the lobed body with a stif leaf rim collar below; raised on a fluted socle decending to the octagonal plinth base with incised decoration. A rare and impressive piece of saltglazed stoneware giving major gravitas. Would be equally impressive in a garden or interior as a jardiniere or wine cooler. The rim of the bowl and the plinth stamped " LIPSCOMBE & CO PATENT GLAZED TERRA COTTA POTTERIES CHESTERFIELD"
