A pair of early C20th Sicilian Jasper marble obelisks; the tapering body raised on four gilt brass tortoise supports, on square stepped bases with gilt brass mouldings.  
Italian circa 1920
Good condition. 
Dimensions (ins)  27.5 high.  

Provenance: By descent, family of Vittorio Bramanti, Florence, Italy, master of 'Opificio delle Pietre Dure' workshops, Florence. Completed by him after the model of the obelisks situated in 'Piazza Santa Maria Novello' Florence. The originals by Giambologna in 1608, were used as start/finish marks for the annual 'Palio dei Cocchi' Chariot Race held under Cosimo I, in imitation of the Roman Civcus.
