Impressive C19th large marble sculpture of Venus after Bathing; Venus Sortant du Bain; after Christophe-Gabriel Allegrain* (French 1710-1795); of good scale, well carved in statuary marble with fine detail.  The nude maiden with her hair arranged in an elaborate coiffure of entwined plats looking down and drying herself, holding her falling drapery with her left hand.  Her left leg raised on a rock; standing on a naturalistic carved base of rocks and reeds with a shallow circular plinth.

Very good condition, with very minor chips to the base of the plinth

*Allegrain was commissioned to carve the original version of this figure in 1755 by the Marquis de Marigny for the Chateau de Choisy-le-Roi, Val-de-Marne.  The comtesse du Barry purchased the piece for the park of the Chateau de Louveciennes in 1772 where it remained until 1793 when Louis-Simon Boizot secured the figure for the nation, it is now housed in the Louvre.
