Extraordinary C19th pair of Anglo Indian carved hardwood large armchairs / hall seats; of highly unusual design and finely and profusely carved with original ebonised finish; the serpentine crest rail with a carved central Indian Goddess in a meditation pose flanked by scrolling foliage and flower heads above the padded back upholstered in light tan suede; the scrolled arms unusually carved with alligators; raised on swept arm supports.  The seats having suede removable cushions housed in a serrated edge frame carved with flower heads above the deep swept aprons with finely pierced carving of trailing foliage with a central carved peacock.  Raised on bold cabriole legs headed with stylised lion heads and terminating in open mouth mythical creatures with birds standing on their heads.  With square kickout legs to the rear.  The backs upholstered, carved with acanthus leaves and foliage, so can be used freestanding
