Exceptional C19th Italian carved walnut "grotto" stool; of a rare design; the finely carved large scalloped shaped seat which revolves and is height adjustable on a central screw mechanism; the very unusual base depicting a well carved jester in a crouching position dressed in typical costume including his hat with bells, playing the mandolin sat on an entwined dolphin with protruding head and open mouth.
